First Pakistani Camillian priest ordained in Pakistan

On Friday, October 28, in the Cathedral of Faisalabad, His Exc. Mgr. Joseph Coutts ordained the first Pakistani Camillian priest, Fr. Mushtaq Anjum, and 2 deacons of the diocese. According to information sent to Fides by Fr. Luigi Galvani, Camillian, who has been a missionary for a long time in Asia, Fr. Mushtaq's vocation matured about ten years ago, by chance due to an encounter with a Camillian missionary in Thailand, Fr. Rino Metrini, who was in his village for a short period, to help a Dominican missionary to build a missionary hospital. Following this meeting, and after much thought, as the same Fr. Mushtaq says, "I decided to follow the charism of St. Camillus and dedicate my life to serving the sick".
Fr. Mushtaq, therefore, was sent to the Camillian seminar in Manila for his religious formation and to study philosophy and theology. The experience of about ten years of living in another country and a different culture, continues the new priest, "in spite of various difficulties, enriched and matured me a lot. Now I am happy to be able to help enrich the Catholic Church of my country with the charism and spirituality of St. Camillus".
Fr. Galvani stresses that Fr. Mushtaq's ordination is an important moment for the Camillian missionaries, already present in nine Asian countries, who are now preparing to give birth to a new mission in Pakistan. Fr. Mushtaq is excited about the new missionary initiative of the Camillian Philippine Province, in charge of the new mission, and has already begun its efforts concerning the promotion, by printing and distributing vocational material among young people, encouraging them to follow his example and to be, one day, missionaries of love following the example of St. Camillus.
